Who can help me @ Wheeler
• Teachers
• School Support Advisors (SSA) -
• Administrators
• Adolescent Substance Abuse Counseling Service (ASACS)
Our ASACS representative serves U.S. military dependents and their families. The ASACS Student Support Advisor provides counseling support services and helps to identify, prevent, and/or treat students who have alcohol and/or drug concerns. Also, the ASACS representative provides group counseling, leads informational sessions to both parents and students, and conducts peer awareness programs throughout the year.
• Tripler School-Based Behavior Health Team – Tripler Army Medical Center has psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers housed on campus that provide mental health services to our students and parents. WMS staff partners with the Tripler team to help provide academic, behavior, and social support to our students. The Tripler team and school personnel meet weekly to triage students that have been identified and are receiving ongoing counseling/medication management supports. Both the Tripler team and school personnel discuss ways to improve the academic progress and well being of those students identified.
• Military and Family Life Consultant (MFLC) - Our MFLC Student Support Advi-
sor supports students and families who need academic, behavior, and social supports throughout the school year. The MFLC program provides short-term, non-clinical counseling support for a range of issues including: relationships, crisis intervention, stress management, grief, occupational, and other individual and family challenges. Psycho-educational presentations focused on issues common to the military family including: reunion/reintegration, stress/coping, conflict management, and communica- tion are also provided. Support for these challenges empowers individuals during the problem-solving process and increases individual and family resilience in coping with the challenges of military life.
